November 2025 update – in her bridal era

When Calum got down on one knee on the Isle of Lewis, the home of my maternal grandparents, I couldn’t believe it.

The trip had been planned for months: a homecoming and family gathering carefully designed to mark my 30th and my mum’s 70th birthday celebrations. We packed fizz and party hats, then boarded the ferry and settled in for a week of family fun in the Outer Hebrides.

Little did I know Calum was cooking up a celebration of his own. He had asked Mum for permission months before and had designed a beautiful engagement ring with Ian Gallacher in Stirling, and was just waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question.

The radio DJ is well and truly in her bridal era!

During that week, he’d been wandering around the Callanish Stones and Luskentyre Beach and the rest of the sights of the Hebrides – all with a custom-made engagement ring in his pocket, biding his time and waiting to ask me to be his wife.

After a slight delay (in small part due to a very real concern that my elation at Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce would overshadow our own ‘yes’ moment), my future husband got down on one knee.

When it happened, on the gorgeous white sands of Kneep Beach, I said yes to a future with the love of my life.

"My heart has never been so full."

Later, we celebrated with an overnight at the beautiful Uig Sands, where we enjoyed the fizz we’d packed, savouring every moment before telling friends and family. (One of whom, shortly after, asked me how I was enjoying life on ‘Cloud Champagne’. Not too bad, thanks!)

Since then, we’ve dipped a toe into wedding planning and surveyed some potential venues. With a proposal in the Outer Hebrides and hometowns of Aberdeen and Glasgow, there’s a lot of choice out there.

The internet has been a very helpful, if slightly baffling, source of information regarding all things ‘bridal era’, and we’re trying to strike a balance between excitement and overwhelm.

"I think once we settle on our venue and, crucially, our budget (eek!), things will really start to slot into place."

From castles to barns, and everything in between, find the perfect place to say ‘I do’

Until then, we are loving spending our weekends visiting National Trust for Scotland properties, sampling champagne and canapés and allowing ourselves to dream up the very best version of our day. It’s a lot of fun!

Katy and Calum have been on 'Cloud Champagne' ever since

What's next?

Cloud Champagne really is where we’ve landed for now: enjoying and trusting the process, feeling the giddy excitement of being in love and looking forward to the memories we will make in the moment and beyond.

And, most importantly, Calum has decided the venue MUST have a beer tap so he can have a ‘proper pint’ on his special day!
