This Edinburgh wedding at Mansfield Traquair combines a candlelit ceremony in one of the city’s most iconic venues with a relaxed, multi-location celebration.

Lauren and David planned a day that moved across Edinburgh, from their ceremony at Mansfield Traquair to portraits at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh and an evening reception with guests, creating a wedding that felt both personal and practical.

Planning a Mansfield Traquair wedding in Edinburgh

What was going to be an elopement in the wilds of the Highlands turned into a celebration with 80 guests at one of Edinburgh’s grandest settings.

"David and I had our hearts set on Glencoe, but we thought we’d view some ‘traditional’ venues too,” smiles bride Lauren.

“As soon as we walked into Mansfield Traquair, we felt an immediate draw.”  “We were really blown away by how beautiful it is,” agrees the groom.

“I could just picture our day there – with us standing at the front and our guests looking on.”

A multi-location Edinburgh wedding timeline that worked

Determined to put their own stamp on things, though, the happy couple made up their own timeline.

“We decided to host our ceremony and drinks reception in Mansfield Traquair. Then David and I went to Virgin Hotels Edinburgh for photographs (and pizza), while our guests headed across the city for dinner at the Angels’ Share Hotel.

"We met them there afterwards for the reception,” Lauren explains.

One person who helped keep operations in order was Lucy, the event designer at the restored former church. “She was great whenever we had any questions.

"Everyone at Mansfield Traquair was extremely helpful.”

Pre-wedding nerves and morning prep

It was all going so smoothly – before the couple encountered a few ‘character-building’ moments towards the very end.

“I stayed with my bridesmaids the night before in an Airbnb near Stockbridge,” Lauren recalls.

“It ended up being a little stressful as my dress had fallen inside the bag and had become very crumpled. It took us hours to steam the creases out. I could feel myself getting a little antsy, so my yoga teacher made me a video to follow before I got ready.”

Happily, with the help of a few mimosas and some Dolly Parton songs, the bride’s nerves were settled… just as everything began to sink in for David.

“My groomsmen and I went for a sauna and then for breakfast. But as soon as I was on my way to Mansfield, it all hit me. I became a nervous wreck,” laughs the groom.

“I don’t know what came over me. I think I was just worried about all the organisation of our wedding coming together. I was absolutely fine once I arrived, thankfully!”

With their venue lit up by lots of candles and fairylights, the ceremony began at 2.30pm, with David and Lauren walking down the aisle together.

The couple then stood with their celebrant under the magnificent baldacchino, the former church’s grand canopy. “I actually walked the first part on my own and then David met me halfway,” says Lauren.

“It just felt like a romantic walk with my best friend.”

It turned out to be the highlight for David, too. “The minute I saw Lauren, my knees wobbled and I burst out crying. I was so emotional!”

The couple had a few photographs taken at their stunning venue, but spent most of their time there mingling with guests during the drinks reception.

Afterwards, their loved ones made their way across town for dinner, while Lauren and David sneaked off for a romantic moment.

Wedding photos at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh

“We’d originally considered heading to the Royal Mile for photographs, but, given it was October, the weather was a concern,” says David.

“So we booked the Scarlet Lounge at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh instead. The interiors are gorgeous and made for some really fun pictures.

"Plus, we ordered in from Civerinos (Lauren’s favourite pizza!) and spent some time just the two of us.”

“We later met up with our guests – who I don’t think had even noticed we’d left! – for the evening,” adds Lauren.

“Our DJ kept the dancefloor full the entire night. We had so much fun – we wouldn’t change a thing.”
