Hannah and Donna celebrated with 130 loved ones at Harvest Moon Weddings in East Lothian on 16th May 2026, with an outdoor ceremony, free bar, barbecue and plenty of entertainment
What do you get when you add a mechanical rodeo bull and an open bar to a ceilidh? No, not carnage (or the start of a corny joke), honestly! In this case, it produced the wedding of a lifetime for Hannah and Donna.
The couple chose Harvest Moon Weddings in East Lothian for their relaxed celebration, inviting 130 guests to the coastal venue near Tyninghame. A woodland ceremony was followed by garden games, a family-style barbecue, pizza, a mechanical rodeo bull and a ceilidh that kept the dancefloor busy until the end of the night.

Finding their blank-canvas wedding venue in East Lothian
Hannah and Donna had been searching for a venue where they could really unwind and have fun, and they found what they were looking for at Harvest Moon Weddings, at Tyninghame on the East Lothian coast, just 45 minutes from Edinburgh. Ceremonies can take place on the beach or amid glorious woodlands, and there’s a blank-canvas barn to party in.
“We wanted somewhere with beautiful views and on-site guest accommodation and which would allow us to get creative,” smiles Hannah.
“Harvest Moon fitted that description perfectly, and it also had so much space for everything we wanted… including a rodeo bull!”
She and Donna did much of the decorating themselves, adding lots of personal touches, but also made use of the venue’s furniture, wooden bar and lighting.
“We didn’t have a theme as such, we just wanted it to feel like a big party where all our friends and family would feel relaxed and comfortable.
“Being able to bring in our own booze was a bonus, as we wanted to offer our guests a free bar.”
An outdoor woodland wedding ceremony
Although Hannah and Donna invited 130 people, they kept their ceremony low-key and only asked along family members. Most guests stayed on-site in Harvest Moon’s beach cabins, treehouses and woodland cottage.
“The outdoor space in the woodlands is beautiful – it is surrounded by trees and we were obsessed the minute we saw it,” Hannah recalls.
“A standout moment from the ceremony was when a little butterfly landed on Donna’s shoulder – we couldn’t believe it.”
The couple live in England but Donna is originally from Scotland, and their ceremony included two Scottish wedding traditions: a handfasting ritual and drinking from the quaich.
“We were mindful not to keep our other guests waiting around too long, and the team at Harvest Moon really kept things on track. Alex, in particular, was brilliant and super-organised.”
Drinks, garden games and wedding photos by the coast
Next up was a drinks reception filled with garden games and beer pong as the newlyweds managed to sneak off for photographs.
“There are so many fabulous locations to pick from – the beach, the woods and the treehouses.”
After spending a few much-needed moments together just the two of them, Donna and Hannah made their way to the decorated barn, where dinner was served and the reception followed.
A relaxed barbecue and pizza wedding breakfast
A traditional three-course wedding breakfast wasn’t part of Hannah and Donna’s plans. Instead, they chose food that better suited the relaxed atmosphere they wanted for the day.
“Neither of us had fancied a three-course sit-down meal – it felt too formal for the kind of wedding we were going for,” Donna explains, “so we decided on a family-style barbecue and a pizza van instead. Our guests loved it and everyone was very well fed.
“The speeches were amazing too – so funny, and heartwarming. We laughed and cried.”
A rodeo bull, ceilidh and packed dancefloor
With dinner and speeches complete, there was still plenty more entertainment to come – including the mechanical rodeo bull that had helped sell the couple on the venue in the first place.
“Our reception was incredible. We had a ceilidh and it went down an absolute storm as it got everyone up on their feet,” says Donna. “That meant the dancefloor was full all night!
“Hannah and I were the last ones standing – it was the best day ever.”
