Tie the Knot Scotland got exclusive access to new Glasgow wedding venue The Exchange for the day to show off its wedding spaces including the Gallery, the Print Room and the Parlour.

The focus was on all of the wedding details that make a difference, such as the flowers and decor (in gorgeous shades of caramel, gold and mocha mousse), as well as convertible wedding dresses with detachable elements, groomswear outfits with different accessories, jewellery options and tweaks to hair and makeup to change the wedding look.

Eleganza Sposa and Kudos Bridal Dunfermline supplied the beautiful wedding dresses that we styled with different accessories and jewellery from Alexandra Bespoke and Logan the Jewellers throughout the day, while MacGregor and MacDuff and McCalls Highlandwear supplied a kilt outfit and tartan trews outfit respectively.

Borders-based Wildflower & Willow took charge of the flowers and venue styling with an additional bouquet supplied by Petals Flowers Boutique in Glasgow.

Leigh Blaney was in charge of makeup and Sóif de Lox styled the models’ hair, while photographer Mark Keogh and content creator ur bts bestie were on hand to capture it all.

What is The Exchange in Glasgow like for weddings?

With adaptable event spaces, a spectacular ceremony room with 75-foot-long aisle, a private hidden outdoor terrace, and unparalleled views over Royal Exchange Square and The Gallery of Modern Art, The Exchange is Glasgow’s newest exclusive-use wedding venue.

Situated on the upper floors of an iconic A-listed blonde sandstone building, it only hosts one wedding per day and can accommodate ceremonies from 60 to 140 guests and evening receptions for up to 200 people.

Its timeless event spaces are cool, clean and modern and are all neutrally designed so they can be tastefully dressed to bring your wedding vision to life.

“From initial planning through to the final dance of the evening, our experienced wedding team are committed to delivering flawless customer service and orchestrating a day you will never forget,” says Pauline Muir, the venue’s events and weddings manager.

Wedding content creator Glasgow

Wedding content creator Emma Irving of ur bts bestie filmed our photoshoot throughout the day, capturing magic moments and stunning scenes – including the sensational one below, under the sparkling disco ball at The Exchange.

“The Exchange in Glasgow is such a stunning venue and the shoot day came together beautifully. Collaborating with such a talented team of creatives made the day even more special," says Emma.

"There’s something really inspiring about working with people who are just as passionate about weddings as you are. I’m so excited for my upcoming weddings at The Exchange – it’s the kind of space that brings every couple’s vision to life.”

Mocha mousse wedding flowers and decor ideas

Award-winning Borders-based wedding floral design and styling studio Wildflower & Willow was inspired by Mocha Mousse, the Pantone colour of the year, when it came to the flowers and venue decor.

“I colour-blocked and arranged the flowers in an almost ombré fashion in places, with lots of depth, texture and asymmetry to give them a modern edge,” explains owner Kelly Vaughan-Clinkscale. “I reflexed many of the large-headed Dorchester, Quicksand and Avalanche roses for extra fullness and frills, and brought in rich caramel and terracotta tones with lisianthus and carnations.”

The same aesthetic led the way with Kelly’s table styling in The Exchange’s Gallery, where she used caramel table linen and napkins with touches of mixed metal to give an interesting edge.

“Using a non-standard colour of table linen alongside gold-rimmed charger plates and modern bows on the candles brought an elevated, luxe feel and added an air of sophistication,” notes Kelly.

The stationery, also supplied by Wildflower & Willow, featured a clean modern font paired with on-trend calligraphy. It stood out beautifully on the welcome sign thanks to Kelly’s decadent olive-green drapery, which was artfully repurposed to stage the champagne table at the end of the day.

Glasgow florist Petals Flower Boutique also supplied a beautiful white bouquet of Playa Blanca rose, ranunculus, lisianthus and anthurium.

How can a bride change her wedding hair style from day to night?

“Making small changes to a hairstyle and adding or removing accessories as the wedding progresses can have a big impact, giving brides the chance to refresh their look throughout the celebration,” says hair extension and bridal specialist Chantal Heggie at Sóif De Lox.

“This approach allows for multiple looks with minimal effort – perfect for brides craving a little versatility.”

The hairstyling on the photoshoot ranged from effortlessly elegant – soft, dressed-out waves swept behind one ear for a modern twist – to a timeless French twist updo with a side parting.

“For the final look, I tucked away the side parting completely, showing off model Mel’s gorgeous features and channelling full-on Audrey Hepburn vibes.”

Day to night bridal makeup

A hydrated base is key for any bridal makeup look and Glasgow MUA Leigh Blaney has that down to a fine art using Charlotte Tilbury’s Glow Toner, Magic Serum and Charlotte’s Magic Cream, alongside Leigh’s “go-to cooling eye pads.”

Leigh also used a combination of Charlotte Tilbury products to perfect model Mel’s skin, including the revered Hollywood Flawless Filter glow booster.

From there, a soft champagne and muted dusky pink colour palette – to tie in with the Mocha Mousse tones of the flowers – led the way. “It’s a classic combination that suits almost everyone and never goes out of style,” says Leigh.

As the shoot progressed, Leigh “slightly smoked the eye out on the top lid and underneath” using Makeup by Mario’s Ethereal Eyes palette, before changing it up with a slight eye flick and introducing some pinker tones by way of blush, lip liner and Fenty Beauty lip gloss.

For the final look, Leigh mattified the skin, darkened the eyeshadow and introduced a red lip – Charlotte Tilbury’s Cinematic Red.

“It suited Eleganza Sposa’s mini dress look so much and brought the party vibes.”
