About Thackray House

Thackray House is a historic country house hotel set on the banks of the River Teith in Callander, within Scotland’s iconic Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

Dating back to 1625, the property sits on manicured grounds and combines centuries of history with beautifully restored interiors. Recently reopened following an extensive restoration, the hotel features 15 beautifully restored bedrooms, a private chapel, elegant reception spaces and extensive riverside gardens, offering an intimate yet luxurious retreat for couples and their guests.

History of Thackray House

Dating back to 1625, Thackray House began life as a hunting lodge for the Dukes of Perth and has welcomed royalty, political figures and famous guests throughout its history. 

Formerly known as Roman Camp, the hotel famously hosted The Beatles during their early 1960s tours and was lovingly restored before reopening in Spring 2026, preserving original features including the wood-panelled library, carved ceilings and Art Deco details.

The 17th Century Library

The striking wood-panelled historic Library is an atmospheric space for wedding ceremonies, featuring open fires and views over the River Teith.

Better suited to intimate and religious ceremonies, the intimate chapel adjoining the Library is a stunning setting for ultra-intimate ceremonies and signing of the register.

Thackray House’s beautifully kept grounds offer a variety of gorgeous spaces to celebrate, including lush lawns, a walled garden and private riverside locations along the River Teith. 

A beautiful lawn beside the river also offers space for a marquee, while outdoor drinks receptions allow guests to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and scenery.

Wedding packages and exclusive use

No matter the size of your celebration, Thackray House offers flexible options to suit your needs. Couples planning a celebration for up to 20 guests can choose a non-exclusive package, while weddings of 21 guests or more require exclusive use of the property, ensuring complete privacy.

Exclusive use includes breakfast for up to 30 guests and allows couples and their guests to enjoy the entire house and grounds. Exclusive use fees are:

•    2026: £7,000 (Nov–Mar) / £9,500 (Apr–Oct)
•    2027: £7,250 (Nov–Mar) / £10,000 (Apr–Oct)
•    2028: £7,500 (Nov–Mar) / £10,500 (Apr–Oct)

Marquee weddings

For weddings of more than 120 guests, a bespoke marquee can be erected within the grounds, providing a light-filled and elegant reception space with uninterrupted views of the landscape. The experienced team works closely with couples and their chosen marquee suppliers to ensure a seamless addition to the wedding day.
