Planning your barn wedding in Scotland
Now that you have all of this farm, steading and byre venue inspiration, here are some things to consider when planning your barn wedding...
What is a barn wedding?
A barn wedding is the most common way to describe a wedding ceremony and/or reception that takes place in a barn, byre, stable or farm that has been converted for event use.
What is a blank-canvas wedding space?
A blank-canvas or dry-hire wedding space, means that usually only the venue is supplied, while the decor, furniture and catering is all up to you to organise.
These venues require a bit more planning, but the plus side is that you'll be able to choose exactly what your wedding looks like, set against the backdrop of stone walls, wooden beams, and unique architectural features.
Many Scottish barn and byre venues include furniture hire options and work closely with established caterers to make planning a bit less daunting. Some may even provide those fully in-house.
Check when booking the venue if the space includes amenities like lighting and toilets or if you'll need to hire this.
Can you get married in a barn in Scotland?
You can get married anywhere in Scotland, as long as you have all of the legal elements in place, and (as evidenced above) there are plenty of incredible barns on offer across the country.
Rustic wedding theme
If a rustic wedding theme is what you've got in mind, then a barn venue is the perfect setting for your celebration. With a neutral colour palette and natural materials, your rustic decor and florals will feel right at home.

How to decorate a barn for a wedding?
As you'll be working with a blank-canvas venue, the possibilities for decorating are endless. You won't have to worry about the colour of the carpet clashing with your colour palette or the artwork on the wall not being your style, as these spaces are fairly neutral.
Why not decorate the space with colourful florals, personalised signage, wooden Chiavari chairs and a flower-filled arch? Speak to your venue about which things they can supply and what you'll need to source yourself.
